Villanova, Pa.- Despite a late goal to tie the game up at one the Villanova Wildcat fell to the Providence Friars 2-1. Prior to kickoff the teams six seniors were honored in a Senior Day Ceremony.
After a scoreless first half the Providence Friars got on the board first when Amber Birchwell was able to play the ball down field to Meg Hughes who got a cross shot to enter the back of the net in the 61
st minute.
Villanova was able to tie the game up at one in the 86
th minute when
Emma Weaver took a free kick and placed it in the box. There
Bri Austin was there and pass it to
Alexa Wojnovich who netted the goal.
Providence's Birchwell would net the game winner in the 88
th minute to make the final 2-1.
Villanova took 13 shots against the Friars and placed six on goal, with four of them coming in the second half.
Megan McClay finished with 10 saves on the day. She was also named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, which was announce by the conference office earlier in the afternoon.
The Wildcats will travel to S. Orange, New Jersey to take on the Seton Hall Pirates on Thursday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
