PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Villanova (3-2) tallied its second straight win over a BIG EAST opponent on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Providence (1-7) at the Tennis Courts. The visiting Wildcats clinched the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches before going on to sweep the six singles matches in straight sets.
The doubles team of junior
Annalise Klopfer (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and senior
Lexi DeNucci (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied a 6-1 win over Julia Migliorini and Haley Gurski in the No. 1 doubles match. Klopfer faced Migliorini later in the match at No. 1 singles and was a 6-1, 6-1 winner. DeNucci won her No. 3 singles match against Katie Mulvey with a 6-0, 6-3 decision.
Senior
Claudia Althans (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and junior
Emily Strande (Centennial, Colo.) teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Mulvey and Vannelie Melendez. Althans tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win in her No. 2 singles match against Gurski, while Strande was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 4 singles against Melendez.
In the No. 3 doubles match, freshman
Rose Kenny (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior
Sabina Grigorian (Atlanta, Ga.) held a 5-3 lead over Mimi Dailey and Emmie Lindholm in a match that was not completed. Kenny was a winner in singles at the No. 6 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Lindholm later in the afternoon. Freshman
Bella Steffen (Cary, N.C.) won her No. 5 singles match over Daily by set scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
