Villanova, Pa.- On a rainy and overcast afternoon at Higgins Soccer Complex the Villanova Wildcats fell to the Seton Hall Pirates 2-1. The game was delayed by 15 minutes due to lightening in the area and the rain fell heavy for the opening minutes.
Seton Hall got four shots off in those early minutes with Natalie Tavana getting one on goal that was saved by
Megan McClay. Villanova's
Francesca Yanchuk answered with four shots of her own and one on goal that was saved by Grace Gordon. McClay came up with back-to-back saves in the 34
th minute to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Villanova came out strong in the second half taking six shots in the opening 10 minutes. Yanchuk took three shot and placed one on goal,
Reagan Smith took two shots and placed one on goal, and
Chloe O'Neill had a shot on goal.
In the 73
rd minute the Pirate's Laura Hooper scored on a pass from Caroline Lipton. Hooper took a shot from 20 yards out that went to the upper right corner of the goal to make it 1-0.
It was only 5 minutes later when O'Neill played a corner into the box that found Smith. There the senior was able to head the ball in to tie the game at 1.
In the 82
nd minute Seton Hall's Hooper would score again this time on passes from Tavana and Sophie Liston to go up 2-1. O'Neill would get a shot off for Villanova in the 85
th minute that would be saved by Gordon to make the final 2-1 Seton Hall.
Next Villanova will host Marquette on Sunday afternoon. Kick off at Higgins Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. and can be seen on BEDN on FloSports.
