Villanova, Pa.- Villanova women's soccer fell to Marquette on Sunday afternoon by a final of 3-1. The Wildcats move to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST play.
In the 20
th minute Villanova got on the board when
Francesca Yanchuk sent a cross pass that was intended for
Chloe O'Neill but instead Marquette's Katrina Wetherell kick the ball into her own goal giving the Wildcats the early lead.
The Golden Eagles answered back in the 22
nd minute tying the game when Kylie Sprecher sent a long ball into the box from the right side by the end line. The ball came to Elsi Twombly who was able to head it in. In the 31
st minute Rachel Johnson was able to pick off a ball being cleared out of the box and send her shot into the back of the goal to make it 2-1. The final goal of the game of the game came in the 34
th minute when Maggie Starker picked a pass off and dribbled down and scored to make it 3-1.
In the opening minutes of the second half Marquette was awarded a penalty kick after a foul occurred in the box. Wetherell took the shot, and it was saved by
Megan McClay, who finished with five saves.
Villanova in the second half placed three shots on goal, Yanchuk took the first,
Alexa Wojnovich the second, and O'Neill the final one.
The Wildcats next will travel to Xavier to take on the Musketeers on Thursday. Kick off in Cincinnati is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. and can be seen on BEDN on FloSports.
