Cincinnati, Ohio- The Villanova Wildcats fell at Xavier on Thursday night 3-0. Villanova is now 6-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
Xavier got on the board in the fifth minute when Emma Marcus took a long pass from Sonia Vargas and was able to get a cross shot to fall into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Reagan Smith gave the Wildcats a strong chance in the 22
nd minute when the senior set a shot from the top corner of the box right on goal. Oliva Jenkins, the Musketeer's goalkeeper was able to jump and get her hands on the ball to save it. In the 32
nd minute
Brice McInroy was able to pick off a pass from the Xavier's center back and get a shot off. McInroy's shot was just high and hit the crossbar which made it 1-0 Xavier at the half.
In the opening minutes of the second half
Chloe O'Neill took a shot that went wide. The Musketeer's netted their second goal on a successful penalty kick taken by Molly McLaughlin. The final goal of the game was scored in the 87
th minute when Carrie Lewis dished it to Chloe Netzel to make the final 3-0.
Megan McClay played all 6- minutes in goal and finished with six saves. O'Neill took a team high three shots.
Next Villanova will travel to Chicago, Illinois to take on the DePaul Blue Demons. Kickoff on Sunday is set for 2:00 P.M. ET and can be seen on BEDB on FloSports.
