Men’s Swimming and Diving falls at Penn State

Wildcats dropped their final road trip of the regular season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –  The final road trip of the 2021-22 regular season saw Villanova fall to Penn State, 215-81, at the McCoy Natatorium on Friday evening.

Villanova (3-5) had 16 athletes with at least one top-five performance to their name in the loss to Penn State (4-4). The 400 Medley free brought the most success for the 'Cats in 1-2-3 fashion. The team of Ryan Maher, Reid Hutcherson, Jesse Marsh and Patrick Hemingway touched first (3:10.42). Second-place belonged to Kevin Geist, Aubrey Bowles, Carson Brockette and Andrew Mitchill, finishing in 3:18.39 followed by Jake McIntyre, Ethan Brown, Nolan Danus and Richard Nolan in third at 3:20.66.

Brown, Mitchill, Geist and Reid Hutcherson teamed up for a fourth-place swim in the 200 Medley Relay (1:54.39).

In diving, Nicholas Jubilee logged a new personal-best in the 1-meter dive with a 290.93 score that was good enough for second. He checked in at fifth in the 3-meter (276.15). Michael Ackert was third in the 3-meter (290.25) and fourth in the 1-meter (276.30).

Individual swims saw Charlie Hinckley and Bowles go 4-5 in the 1000 free, finishing in 9:48.25 and 9:57.97, respectively. In the 200 Free, Villanova made up the third through fifth spots. Hutcherson placed third (1:42.97) followed by McIntyre in fourth (1:45.91) and Bowles in fifth (1:52.95). Brown was the fastest Wildcat in the 100 Back, finishing fifth in 52.08. Fifth-place finishes also came for Halloran in the 100 Breast (59.74), Hemingway in the 50 Free (21.53) and Hutcherson in the 100 Free (47.68).

Danus touched second in the 200 Fly (1:53.85) with Geist coming fourth (1:56.12). Brown and Brockette went 3-4 in the 200 Back, finishing in 1:52.80 and 1:54.78, respectively. The same was true for Nolan and Halloran in the 200 Breast, touching in 2:09.72 and 2:10.24.

McIntyre swam a third-place time of 4:43.92 in the 500 Free with Mitchill touching fifth in 4:50.70. Geist finishes fifth in the 100 Fly (51.05). Danus was just under two seconds out of the lead with a third-place finish in the 200 IM (1:54.77). He was followed by Nolan in fourth (1:58.66) and Halloran in fifth (1:59.36).

Villanova is back in the pool on Sunday for SprintFest at noon. The team will also honor its seniors that day at 11:45 a.m.
