Villanova, Pa.- The Villanova Wildcats were able to hold off the attacking offensive of the Connecticut Huskies and play to a 0-0 draw on Thursday afternoon. Villanova moves to 3-8-3 overall and 2-5-1 in league action while the Huskies go to 7-6-2 and 3-4-1 in the BIG EAST.
UConn's offense came out strong taking 11 shots in the opening 45 and placing four on goal.
Megan McClay, who finished with seven saves, picked up four in the first half. The Wildcats got off three shots in the first half.
Alexa Wojnovich and
CiCi Fox sent shots that both went out the top and
Izzy Newton's shot was blocked.
The Huskies offense continued to click in the second half getting off three shots on goal. In the 61
st minute McClay made a leaping save to keep Cara Jordan's shot that was sent to the top left corner out. Newton got the Wildcats offense going with back-to-back shots on goal at the 65
th minute. Villanova's best scoring chance game in the 83
rd minute when Wojnovich sent a ball into the box that found
Lauren Belcuore who was on the doorstep. The shot was saved by the diving UConn keeper to make the final 0-0.
Villanova will play their final home regular season home game this Sunday against the DePaul Blue Demons. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. and following the game the team will honor their eight seniors.
