Villanova, Pa.- The Villanova Wildcats connected on two penalty kicks Sunday afternoon against the DePaul Blue Demons to win the final home game of the regular season, 2-1. After the game the Wildcats honored their eight seniors.
Villanova's first penalty kick came in the 10
th minute when
CiCi Fox was fouled in the box. The graduate students stepped up to take the kick and sent the shot into the lower left corner to make it 1-0.
Megan McClay made a jumping save in the 16
th minute to keep the Villanova lead. DePaul played a corner in and Sydney Parker got a strong header off that McClay was able to use her finger tips to push out.
The Blue Demons tied the game with a successful penalty kick of their own. Following a foul at the top of the box DePaul's Katie Godden was able to connect her shot just out of the reach of a diving McClay to make it 1-1 in the 52
nd minute. McClay later in the second half made three saves to keep the Wildcats and Blue Demons tied with 20 minute to go.
The Wildcat's in the 82
nd minute were awarded another penalty after
Lauren Belcuore was fouled in the box.
Emma Weaver stepped up and took the PK for the Wildcats and connected to make it 2-1. DePaul took three more shots before the end of regulation, but all were off target making the final 2-1.
Villanova will close out the regular season Thursday in Providence, Rhode Island. Kickoff against the Providence Friars is scheduled 6:00 P.M. Villanova is still in the hunt for the final spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
