Water Polo Unveils 2023 Schedule

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova Water Polo head coach Larry Sanders unveiled his group's 2023 slate on Tuesday that includes five road tournaments before opening Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action in March.

The Wildcats are coming off of a 20-15 campaign in 2022, the second-most wins in program history. Throughout the season, they scored a program-best 415 goals on well-over 1,000 shots, a shooting threshold that has only been seen one other time in team history when the 2013 squad attempted 1,004 shots.

The season gets underway on Jan. 28 when the 'Cats head to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Invite where they will play four games in two days against Indiana, Marist, Harvard and Cal State East Bay. They will break up tournament action with a home game against Mercyhurst on Feb. 4 inside the Villanova Swim Complex before hitting the road for three straight events. The road swing starts in Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Tournament on Feb. 11 and 12 to take on Salem, Princeton and Bucknell before heading to Princeton, N.J. for their second-straight showing at the Princeton Invitational on Feb. 25-26 to face St. Francis Brooklyn, Chapman and have a rematch with Bucknell.

Villanova will spend over a week in California, starting with the Convergence Tournament on March 3 and 4. The group is set to visit Cal State Northridge (CSUN) on March 7 for a head-to-head before going to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational. That event starts off on March 10 against St. Francis (Pa.) and hosting San Diego State before taking on Westcliff and UC San Diego on March 11.

Conference action kicks off on March 18 with a trip to Wagner to face LIU and VMI before taking on the hosting Seahawks March 19. The following weekend keeps the crew close to home as it plays a two-day set at La Salle on March 25 and 26 to face LIU, VMI and La Salle.

April starts in Lexington, Va. with three games at VMI, playing Marist and Iona on April 1 and St. Francis (N.Y.) on April 2. The regular season closes out in the home pool as Siena comes to town on April 7, Mount St. Mary's on April 8 with Wagner and La Salle both visiting on April 15.
