Women's Basketball to Open Season at Marist Monday Night

Villanova will tip-off the 2022-23 women's basketball season on Monday, Nov. 7, with a road game at Marist. Game time at McCann Arena is set for 7 p.m.

The Wildcats tallied an 86-42 win over Jefferson University in exhibition play on Nov. 2. Maddy Siegrist led the Wildcats in the win with 21 pints, six rebounds and five assists, while Brooke Mullin had 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She also added five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Lucy Olsen finished with 12 points and Maddie Burke had 10 points, five assists and three steals. For the game, Villanova was 35-of-76 from the field (46.1%), 7-of-24 from three (29.2%) and 9-of-13 from the foul line (69.2%), while Jefferson shot 28.3 percent from the floor (17-of-60), 22.2 percent from long distance (2-of-9) and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe (6-of-9). Jefferson owned a 43-40 advantage on the backboards. The Wildcats committee just five turnovers.

Villanova will play its first seven games away from home and won't play a game at the Finneran Pavilion until hosting Creighton on Dec. 2. The stretch includes road contests at Marist (Nov. 7), Princeton (Nov. 11), Penn (Nov. 17) and Temple (Nov. 20) and three games over Thanksgiving in the Gulf Coast Showcase.

It will be a homecoming game for Siegrist when Villanova travels to her hometown of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for Monday's season opener at Marist. Siegrist grew up near the Marist campus and attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School where she was a two-time All-State honoree and was the Poughkeepsie Journal Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. Her father, George Siegrist, played college basketball at Marist.

The Wildcats second leading returner scorer in 2022-23 is Olsen. As a freshman last year, she started all 33 games and averaged 7.0 points per game to go with 2.1 rebounds per contest and 89 assists which ranked second on the team. Olsen also connected on 27 three-point field goals. For her efforts last season, she earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.

Entering play at Marist, Villanova has made at least one three-point field goal in 581 consecutive games. The last time Villanova failed to connect on a triple was against Boston College on Jan. 2, 2004, when the Wildcats were 0-for-10 from long distance in a 61-48 loss.
