ATLANTA, GA. – In game one of Saturday's split doubleheader, the Villanova Wildcats fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd by a score of 8-0 in a game played at Georgia Tech's Mewborn Field. With the loss, Villanova falls to 1-2 on the young season, while Marshall improves to 2-1.
Marshall took control of the game early scoring four first inning runs. The big hit came on a three-run home run by Mya Stevenson.
The Thundering Herd put the game away in the bottom of the third inning when they scored four runs to take an 8-0 lead. Marshall put the first three batters on, including Aly Harrell being hit by a pitch to start the inning, and back-to-back singles by Saige Pye and Katie Adams. The four runs were scored on a Wildcat error and two groundouts.
In the loss, Villanova managed three singles with
Megan Kern,
Ryan Henry and
Sydney Hayes recording one hit each.
Sara Kennedy started on the mound for Villanova and was credited with the loss. She allowed eight runs on four hits over two innings. Sophomore
Caroline Pellicano came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
Villanova returns to action on Saturday when the Wildcats take on Georgia Tech at 12:30 p. m.
