LITTLE SILVER, N.J.—Villanova wrapped up a busy weekend with a 7-0 loss to an undefeated Monmouth (5-0) squad at the Little Silver Tennis Club on Sunday afternoon. Despite the outcome the Wildcats played several close matches in both singles and doubles on the day.
Sophomore
Josh Robinson (Potomac, Md.) took on Niels Van Noord at No. 1 singles and pushed his opponent to a second-set tiebreaker before eventually falling by a narrow 6-2, 7-6 (2) margin. Two other Villanova players also won five games in at least one of their sets. Junior
Alex Kim (Cary, N.C.) fell to Lucca Silva at No. 5 singles by set scores of 7-5 and 6-0, while sophomore
Ryan Nguyen (Oakton, Va.) was defeated (6-2, 7-5) in the sixth spot.
In doubles action, the Wildcats won five games in both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Sophomore
Anthony Prokurat (Manalapan, N.J.) and freshman
Trey Fourticq (Los Angeles, Calif.) were defeated in the No. 2 doubles match by Silva and Diego Laporta, while Kim and junior
Justin Suarez (Manila, Philippines) lost a 7-5 decision to Arthur Dussaubat and Cristof Zeller at No. 3 doubles.
Villanova returns to action this weekend with two matches that will be played at Navy. First up is a neutral-court competition against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, followed by a match against the host Midshipmen on Sunday.
