EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – A second-place swim in the 800 Free Relay that set a new program record helped push Villanova men's swimming and diving to a tie for third through the first day of the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Villanova sits even with Xavier through the first day with 64 points. They trail a tie for the top spot by eight points, currently held by Georgetown and Seton Hall with 72.
The silver showing came from
Reid Hutcherson,
Charlie Hinckley,
Jake McIntyre and
Andrew Mitchill with a time of 6:35.22. They smashed the previous school record set by John Paul Naughton,
John Davidson, Steve Krecsmar and
Justin Cucchi at the 2018 BIG EAST Championships by well-over a second, checking in at 6:36.33 that year.
The day started with a fourth-place showing for the Wildcats in the 200 Medley Relay with
Ethan Brown,
Mitchill,
Jesse Marsh and
Patrick Hemingway posting a time of 1.29.61, marking the third-best time in program history.
Day two of the BIG EAST Championships includes the 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle, 1 Meter Diving and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with diving at noon, followed by finals at 5:45 p.m.
