Let's hear it for the Coles: Cole Patten and Jonathan Cole made their Villanova debuts in Malibu and did not disappoint. Patten started game two of the series and tossed 7 and 2/3 innings, allowed zero earned runs and struck out six batters on 81 pitches. 57 of those pitches were strikes. Jonathan Cole appeared in the series finale and threw two scoreless innings of relief, allowed one hit and struck out three batters.

Scouting the Bulldogs
  • The Citadel enters the weekend with a 4-0 record after sweeping Fairleigh Dickinson last weekend and earning a win this past Tuesday against Charleston Southern.
  • Outfielder Ryan McCarthy was named to the Preseason First Team All-SOCON entering 2022. In his junior year, McCarthy hit .282 with 11 homers, 13 doubles and 34 runs batted in. In his first four games this season, McCarthy has gone 5-for-16 with an RBI and six runs scored.
  • Tilo Skole leads the Bulldogs this season with a .583 batting average and has driven in eight runs.
  • Cameron Reeves and Ben Hutchins headline the starting rotation for the Bulldogs. In his first start this season, Reeves tossed eight innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts. Hutchins threw five scoreless innings of one-hit ball and fanned five batters in his season debut. A two-way player, Hutchins serves as a catcher and has already belted two homers this season.
  • Notable alumni: Seattle Mariners pitcher and former first round draft pick Asher Wojciechowski played for The Citadel.
  • The Bulldogs play their home games at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, also known as "The Joe", which is also home to the Charleston RiverDogs, the Low-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2002, "The Joe" set a record for lowest minor league attendance with zero fans for a promotion called "Nobody Night".
