Women's Basketball Travels to St. John's Friday Afternoon

Villanova will put its five-game winning streak on the line when the Wildcats travel to St. John's for a Friday afternoon contest. The Wildcats enter play 13-6 overall and 7-3 in BIG EAST play, while the Red Storm is 7-14 overall and 3-8 in league action. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., at Carnesecca Arena.
 
Friday's game between Villanova and the St. John's Red Storm will be the 73rd all-time meeting between the schools. Villanova leads the all-time series by a 44-28 count. Villanova has won five in a row and is 12-4 in its last 16 games against St. John's.
 
Of all the opponents Villanova has faced over the years, the Wildcats have played St. John's the second most of any opponent at 72 times (Villanova leads 44-28). Providence is the team that the Wildcats have played the most at 80 times.
 
Forty minutes has not been enough for Villanova and St. John's in three of the last five meetings between the teams. In three of the last five games in the series, overtime was needed to decide to outcome with Villanova winning all three. The three victories include 67-62 on Jan. 5, 2020; 66-64 on Jan. 31, 2020; 81-78 on Jan. 25, 2021. Villanova has won six consecutive overtime games overall dating back to the 2019-20 season.
 
Starting Friday at St. John's, Villanova will play five games in a 10-day span. After visiting the Red Storm, the Wildcats will host Georgetown on Sunday, before traveling to Connecticut on Feb. 9. The stretch concludes with a home date against Marquette on Feb. 11 and a road contest at Seton Hall on Feb. 13. 
 
For her efforts in two games last weekend, junior forward Maddy Siegrist earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. In the two wins over Butler and Xavier, Siegrist averaged 26.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest, while shooting .526 from the field (20-of-38) and .466 from three-point range (7-of-15).
 
Villanova will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 6, when the Wildcats play host to the Georgetown Hoyas. Tip-off at the Finneran Pavilion is set for 2 p.m.
