The Wildcats will travel to their second City 6 opponent Wednesday, for an evening matchup against the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Both teams are coming off of wins, with Villanova earning their first of the season sitting at 1-3, while St. Joe's improved to 2-2 on the season.
This will be the 25
th all-time meeting between the schools, with the series gridlocked at 12 wins apiece. The first matchup came in 1995, when the 'Cats won 17-7. Most recently the teams played in the shortened 2020 season, where Saint Joesph's earned the victory 16-9.
SJU returns home after beating Navy 10-9 in Annapolis, Maryland. The Hawks were picked to finish second overall in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, led by Lauren Figura, a senior attacker. Figura, who was named Preseason All-Conference, leads the team with 10 goals on 20 shots with 18 on net.
Coming off their first win of the season, Villanova looks to keep momentum rolling on their first of five straight road games. Against George Washington on Saturday, dual hat-tricks by
Caroline Curnal and
Libby McKenna led the team offensively, while
Molly Dunphey had a career high four caused turnovers. For their efforts, Curnal and Dunphey earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Curnal moved into third place all-time for career draw controls Saturday, with 181. In the win, goalkeeper
Alexa Moro also moved into second place all-time at Villanova for career saves, with 381.
