Fourticq Wins in Both Singles and Doubles Matches, But Wildcats Fall 5-2 to Lehigh

Villanova freshman rallied in his No. 3 singles match for a 2-6, 7-6, 10-7 victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa.—Villanova (2-9) got off to a fast start in its first match in two weeks but was ultimately defeated by a 5-2 final score by Lehigh (6-5) on Sunday morning. Playing for the first time since the end of their Spring Break trip to California, the Wildcats captured the doubles point against the Mountain Hawks and also scored a win in the No. 3 singles match. Freshman Trey Fourticq (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the way for Villanova with the team's lone singles victory and was also victorious in his match at No. 3 doubles.

Fourticq and sophomore Anthony Prokurat (Manalapan, N.J.) combined for a 7-5 win over Michael Bukhalo and Luke Donovan as the Wildcats posted wins in both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Senior Matthew Jones (Dallas, Texas) and junior Justin Suarez (Manila, Philippines) were 6-2 winners over Gary Fishkin and Marc Blekhman at No. 2 doubles. Villanova led 1-0 in the team score before Lehigh came back with wins in five of the six singles matches.

The second team point for the Wildcats came from Fourticq in the No. 3 lineup spot against Matt Kleiman. Fourticq went to a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets to eventually claim his 11th singles victory of the year. He battled back after losing the opening set to Kleiman and gutted out a 2-6, 7-6, 10-7 victory.

Villanova played close matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles despite coming out on the short end of those decisions. Sophomore Josh Robinson (Potomac, Md.) fell in a narrow 6-3, 6-4 result against Zack Elliott ta the top of the lineup, while Jones was defeated (7-5, 6-4) by Fishkin in their No. 4 singles match.

Coming up next weekend the Wildcats will face a pair of BIG EAST opponents on the road as they travel to Xavier on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and visit Butler next Saturday at 2 p.m.
