Mollica and Troup Wind Up Weekend For Wildcats at Raleigh Relays

Villanova duo competed in the 400 meter hurdles and the long jump on Saturday afternoon

RALEIGH, N.C.—Sophomore sprinter Nicholas Mollica (Jackson, N.J.) and graduate jumper Michael Troup (Doylestown, Pa.) competed for Villanova on the final day of action at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday afternoon. Mollica ran the 400 meter hurdles and Troup was in the long jump at Paul H. Derr Track as the Wildcats wrapped up a busy weekend.

For the second straight week to begin the outdoor season Mollica produced a strong result in the 400 meter hurdles. He posted a time of 54.20 to finish third in his heat and 12th overall in a field of 26 competitors. Mollica opened the outdoor campaign with a time of 54.26 last week; his mark on Saturday is now the second-fastest of his career and has him atop the BIG EAST performance list for the season by a margin of more than 1.5 seconds. As a freshman last year Mollica came in fifth in the 400 meter hurdles at the BIG EAST Championships.

The final event of the weekend for Villanova was the long jump, in which Troup recorded a mark of 6.49 meters on his second of three attempts for the day. Troup competed in the first of four flights of the long jump and placed sixth in his section.

During the coming week the Wildcats will be back in action at the Pepsi Florida Relays from Thursday through Saturday, while members of the team will also compete in the Philadelphia Big 5 Meet next Saturday afternoon.
