The Villanova women's lacrosse team will continue their road swing against La Salle on Wednesday. This will be the third of five straight away games for the Wildcats.
Both teams will enter the matchup coming off losses on Saturday. Villanova (1-5) fell at No. 14 Rutgers, while La Salle (2-4) lost a close game against Manhattan at home. In 15 previous matchups, the 'Cats currently have an 8-7 advantage in the all-time series. The teams last squared off in the 2021 season, where Villanova won by a final score of 11-10.
For Villanova, a trio of seniors have led the team in scoring through the first six games. Midfielder
Caroline Curnal has paced the Villanova offense, totaling 15 points on 13 goals and two assists. Behind Curnal are fellow midfielders
Alexa Tsahalis, who has 14 points on nine goals and five assists, and
Libby McKenna, who has scored 10 goals and one assist. On defense,
Molly Dunphey has totaled seven caused turnovers to lead the team, while BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
Sydney Frank has caused six turnovers.
The Explorers were picked to finish seventh, out of 10 teams, in the Atlantic 10 this season. Graduate student Emily Johnston (14g) and junior Tori Rolon (13g) have accounted for nearly half of La Salle's goals (55) through six games. Rolon earned A-10 Offensive Player of the Week last month, after a five-goal performance in La Salle's first game of the season.
The midweek City 6 matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
