Caroline Curnal Earns Weekly Honor Roll from BIG EAST

New York, N.Y. - After a face-off with No. 16 UConn, Caroline Curnal was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance. The senior continued her dominance in the draw circle, securing 13 draws against the Huskies, who rank eighth in the country in draw controls per game. 

The recognition marks her fifth award on the season, with four weekly honor roll nominations and one midfielder of the week selection. 

The Ridgefield, Connecticut native remained in the top five in draw controls per game among individuals, recording 8.77 per game for the Wildcats. Curnal leads Villanova in goals (33), points (38) and draw controls (114) through 14 games. 
 

BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Julia Gilbert, Denver, Grad., A
Gilbert had a game-high six points, including a game-best five goals, as the ninth-ranked Pioneers won at RV Georgetown on Friday.  The Hoyas closed within one, 13-12, with under three minutes to play before Gilbert provided the dagger with 95 seconds left to give Denver a two-goal advantage. Gilbert also gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game which they never relinquished. She added a ground ball and draw control, while seven of her eight shots landed on target. 
BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week
Lydia Foust, Marquette, Sr., M
Foust led the BIG EAST in goals and points last week with a six-goal, three-assist, nine-point outing in Saturday's win over Butler. The Golden Eagles scored a program-record 24 goals on the afternoon. Six of her eight shots landed on goal, while she added a ground ball, draw control and caused turnover. The Golden Eagles were 20-of-21 in clear attempts, while they disrupted Butler into a 15-of-23 clip. 

BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week
Olivia Buckman, Georgetown, Sr., D
Buckman had a game-high six caused turnovers against a ninth-ranked Denver squad which ranks in the top three nationally in the category. Buckman scored her first goal of the season, helping Georgetown to erase a five-goal deficit to get within one, 13-12, with under three minutes to play. She also added a ground ball.

BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week
Meg Bireley, Marquette, Fr., A/M
Bireley was the top scoring freshman in the BIG EAST last week with five points off three goals and two assists in Saturday's win over Butler. She took a game-high nine shots, while going 1-for-1 on free-position attempts.  

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Lia LaPrise, Connecticut, Sr., A – five points off three goals and two assists to go along with six draw controls in 16-15 win over Villanova; assisted on the game-winning goal
Mary Schumar, Marquette, Jr., A – tied a program record and was one shy of the BIG EAST single-game record with seven assists against Butler on Saturday; added a goal in the 24-17 win
Caroline Curnal, Villanova, Sr., A – went toe-to-toe with BIG EAST draw control leader Sydney Watson and finished with a 13-5 advantage; added two goals in the setback to No. 16 UConn
