GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Graduate thrower
Sade Meeks (North Babylon, N.Y.) shattered her own school record in the hammer with a throw of 59.38 meters during competition in the Pepsi Florida Relays at James G. Pressly Stadium on Friday afternoon. Meeks set a new school record for the second straight week after initially breaking a mark which had stood for 21 years last week. She is now the Villanova record holder in the shot put, the weight throw and the hammer.
The first day of competition at the Florida Relays shifted to Friday as a result of several events being postponed or canceled due to severe weather on Thursday evening. The revised event schedule for the Wildcats on Friday featured four women's events with competition in the 1500 meters, pole vault, hammer and javelin.
Meeks posted a mark of 59.38 meters in the hammer which should rank in the top 30 on the East region qualifying list which will be used to determine selections for the NCAA East Preliminary meet later in the season. Her top throw of the day came on her first attempt and easily surpassed the mark of 55.60 meters she had recorded at the Texas Relays on March 24.
