LaRiviere Opens Virginia Challenge With Hammer Competition

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Graduate thrower Riley LaRiviere (Telford, Pa.) competed in the hammer to kick off three days of competition in the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field on Thursday evening. LaRiviere threw for a distance of 52.24 meters in the first of two flights of the hammer. Competition picks back up for Villanova at 11:45 a.m. on Friday morning with men's javelin.
 
LaRiviere recorded his best mark of the day on his second of three attempts. He is coming off a school record performance last week when he threw for 57.46 meters during the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton. LaRiviere eclipsed the previous mark of 57.26 meters which had stood for 20 years. He is currently ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in the hammer this season.
