Wildcats fall to No. 15 Wagner

Villanova, Pa.- Villanova faced an early 4-0 deficit on Saturday morning that they could not claw back from, falling to No 15 Wagner 15-7, in the first of two games at Villanova Swim Complex.

The Wildcats (17-14, 6-6 MAAC) were held to scoring just one goal in the opening quarter and two goals in each of the final three quarters, while facing numerous scoring runs from Wagner (27-3, 11-0 MAAC) through the game.  Kaysie Stuba was the Wildcats leading scored against the Seahawks, she currently is the team leader with 89 goals on the season. 

The Seahawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Lauren Picard halted it and put the Wildcats on the board with a goal at the 1:56 mark, this would be the final goal in the first quarter. 

Wagner's Abbey Simshauser, who finished with a game high three goals, netted her second of the game to open the quarter.  Stuba netted her first goal of game on a power play to make it 5-2 with 6:07 left in the quarter.  The Seahawks scored a pair before Isabel Herbst also scored on a power play before halftime.  Wagner led 7-3 after 16 minutes of action.  Sarah Shaw played the first half in goal for the Wildcats and finished with six saves.

The Wildcats opened the third quarter with two quick goals.  The first for Villanova's goals was scored by Joia McKinney just 30 seconds in and less then a minute later Stuba netted her second to bring the game within two. 

Wagner answered by going on a seven-goal run over nine minutes of action, each goal was scored by a different Seahawk.  The run put Wagner up 14-5 with 4:30 to play.  Amelia Beca put the Wildcats back on the board with a goal at 1:37 and Emily McKenzie also scored with just 18 seconds remaining to make the final 15-7. 

Amanda Rice, who had one field block today, now has the most in a single season with 24. 

The second game of the day is slated for 1:00 P.M. against Iona.
