NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference on Monday morning announced that Villanova senior forward
Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has been named the league's women's basketball player of the week. Siegrist garners the award after leading the Wildcats to wins over DePaul and St. John's.
In the two victories, Siegrist averaged 32.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per contest, while shooting .530 from the field. After tallying 32 points and 12 rebounds in a 71-64 win at DePaul, Siegrist registered 32 points, seven rebounds and four blocks against St. John's. In the St. John's game, Siegrist scored 18 fourth quarter points to help the Wildcats erase a 16-point fourth quarter deficit.
For the year, she is averaging 28.9 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per contest and is shooting .530 from the field (204-of-385) and .405 from three-point range (30-of-74).
Siegrist and the Wildcats return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 17, when the Xavier Musketeers visit the Finneran Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
