Wildcats Suffer Defeat to No. 21 Auburn

'Cats have game against Austin Peay, rematch against Auburn on Saturday

AUBURN, Ala. – Villanova softball played its second contest at the Tiger Invitational on Friday, falling to No. 21 Auburn in five innings by a score of 8-0.

Kelsey White tallied the only hit for Villanova (4-3), although the Wildcats got hard hit balls from Tess Cites and Chloe Smith in the fourth inning. 

Peyton Schnackenberg took the loss for VU after allowing three runs in two innings, while Kelsey White (one inning, four runs) and Caroline Pellicano (one-plus inning, one run) also appeared in the circle for the 'Cats.

Auburn's Nelia Peralta opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the first at bat for the Tigers, giving AU a 1-0 advantage.

The Tigers picked up two more runs in the second frame, with the leadoff hitter notching a single and finding her way home, then a walk, single and groundout allowing another to reach the plate.

AU brought four runs across in the third inning, totaling five singles in the stanza to secure a seven-run edge.

The Tigers got the eight-run rule to take effect in the fifth, with two hitters reaching on a single and a fielder's choice bringing the run in.
