Water Polo Heads to Princeton Invitational

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Nearly two weeks removed from its last road trip, Villanova gets back to action this weekend as it heads to Princeton, N.J. for three games at the Princeton Invitational. The Wildcats will take on St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday before facing Chapman and Bucknell on Sunday at the DeNunzio Pool.

Villanova (2-6) dropped two of its three games at the Bucknell Tournament earlier this month, defeating Salem before falling to Princeton and Bucknell. This will be the third tournament-style weekend for the team on the season with two more still on the docket before conference play begins. In regular season tournaments hosted by Princeton, Villanova is 9-44 all-time.

Emily McKenzie has been on an offensive tear so far this season, netting at least one goal in every game with 18 overall. She had seven of Villanova's 31 goals in the last tournament weekend.

Saturday's 4 p.m. meeting with St. Francis Brooklyn (7-0) will mark the 37th meeting between the two sides. Villanova leads 25-11 in the series that dates back to 2003, winning 16 of the last 18 meetings. When it comes to playing against each other at a neutral venue, Villanova has a 17-6 advantage.

Sunday's two-game action gets underway at 1 p.m. against Chapman (1-3) followed by Bucknell (4-11) at 5:30 p.m. The Wildcats have faced Chapman 11 previous times, winning each of the last seven since 2014. They lead the series 10-1 since 1998, the lone loss being at Chapman on March 6, 2013. As for Bucknell, this will be the second consecutive tournament where Villanova closes the event facing the Bison. The 'Cats will look to avenge a Feb. 12 10-9 loss to the Bison. That loss moved Villanova's deficit in the series to 5-22 since 2000, dropping 20 straight since March 23, 2002.
