Gallant Throws Two-Hitter, Henry Belts Two Home Runs as Wildcats Defeat Boston College

Freshman pitcher had perfect game through 17 batters

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Freshman pitcher Kat Gallant twirled a two-hit, complete game shutout as the Villanova Wildcats took down Boston College 5-0 in the nightcap of the Joan Joyce Classic on Saturday evening.

The Connecticut native tossed a perfect game through 17 batters before allowing the first hit, then got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to complete the shutout.

Ryan Henry had two home runs and five RBIs for Villanova (6-8), marking the first time a Wildcat has hit two homers in one game since April of 2022 when both Paige Rauch and Angela Giampolo did it against Penn. This is the second occasion that Henry has belted two dingers in the same game, with the other instance being on March 13, 2021 against Hofstra.

Senior Dani Dabroski also went 2-for-3 in the game, totaling a double and single in the contest with her lone out being a hard-hit line out to center field. Ava Franz reached base in all three of her plate appearances with a single and two walks in addition to a run.

The Wildcats got the offense underway in the second inning, as Lilly St. Jean was hit by a pitch after working a full count and Franz drew a walk. After a flyout, Henry worked a seven pitch at-bat and proceeded to blast a ball over the fence in left center to deliver VU a 3-0 advantage.

Henry nearly made it a 6-0 game in the third frame, as Franz walked and Smith singled to put runners on the corners with two outs. Down 1-2 in the count, Henry lifted a ball deep into right field, but BC right fielder Aleyah Terrell tracked it down on the warning track to keep Villanova's lead at three.

But Henry got her revenge in the sixth inning as she belted an 0-1 pitch to the deepest part of the park, scoring Alexa Raphael and putting VU up 5-0.

After Gallant's perfect game was taken away by a single in the sixth inning, Boston College finally got some offense going with a two-out single in the seventh. A wild pitch and an error moved runners to the corners and a walk loaded the bases before Gallant finished out the complete game with a popout.

UP NEXT: Villanova will wrap up the Joan Joyce Classic with a rematch against BC, taking on the Eagles at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
