PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Wildcats split the day with a big 5-2 win over Providence at the TRI West Bay on Saturday afternoon. The match was the second of two on the day for the Wildcats, who dropped the first to Brown earlier in the morning.
The match began with doubles competition in which the Friars took two of the three matches. Mulvey and Melendez defeated sophomore duo
Emma Brogan and
Valieriia Kornieva at No. 1 doubles (6-4), while
Emi Callahan and
Caitlin Fisher were bested by Ross and Abreu in the No. 2 spot (6-4). The No. 3 doubles match saw
Amanda Rivera-González and
Bella Steffen take the 6-4 victory over Lindholm and Migliorini. With the two wins, Providence secured the team point.

 At the top of the lineup Brogan defeated Mulvey in a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Callahan lost to Ross at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.

Kornieva faced Migliorini in the No. 3 singles match and won a tiebreaker after the two players split the first two sets. The first set went to Migliorini in a 6-3 decision before Kornieva rallied to win the second set 6-2 and the tiebreaker by a 7-6 (4) count. The match was the only one in the singles competitions to advance to a third set tiebreaker.

Steffen took on Melendez at the No. 4 spot and took an 6-3, 6-2 win. Fisher defeated Abreu (6-4, 6-1) at No. 5 singles and Rivera-González took a clean victory over Carson in the No. 6 match by set scores of 6-3 and 6-0.

The Wildcats return to action Tuesday March 7 to take on Creighton.
