PROVIDENCE, R.I.—In its first of two matches of the day Villanova (1-7) fell to Brown (7-3) by a 6-0 score at the Indoor Tennis Courts on Saturday morning. The match featured close scores throughout the lineup and the Wildcats will return to action later in the day when they take on Providence in Warwick, R.I. at TRI West Bay.
 
Saturday's morning match opened with the doubles competition in which Villanova was defeated at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Freshman Emi Callahan (Lake Forest, Ill.) and senior Caitlin Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio) fell 6-4 at No. 2 doubles while the tandem of senior Amanda Rivera-González (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and junior Bella Steffen (Cory, N.C.) lost a 6-2 decision in the No. 3 match.
 
The matchup at No. 1 doubles was a close one which was halted once the host Bears secured the doubles point. The sophomore duo of Emma Brogan (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Valieriia Kornieva (Dnipro, Ukraine) held a 5-4 lead against Addison Ahlstrom and Britany Lau when the match was stopped.
 
Brogan and Kornieva each played competitive singles matches at the top two spots in the lineup. Brogan fell to Vivian Miller in the No. 1 match by set scores of 7-5 and 6-1, while Kornieva was defeated by Alexandra Benedetto by identical scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
 
Elsewhere in the lineup Steffen lost to Ahlstrom at No. 3 singles in a 6-1, 6-0 decision and Fisher was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Olivia Mariotti in the No. 4 match. Brown was awarded a win at No. 6 singles in a walkover. One match was not played to completion as Rivera-Gonzalez trailed Lindsey Hofflander by a count of 2-1 in the first set when the match ended.

The Wildcats second match of the day against Providence gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
