VILLANOVA, Pa.—After a thrilling road win against the No. 10 ranked team in the country the Villanova men's lacrosse team entered the national polls itself in releases made on Monday morning. This week's rankings have the Wildcats at No. 16 in the USILA Coaches Poll and at No. 18 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. It is the first time this season that Villanova has been nationally-ranked, although the Wildcats were among the top teams receiving votes in each of the year's first three polls.
Monday's national rankings came after the Wildcats pulled out a late 13-12 win over then-No. 10 Delaware on Sunday afternoon. The game was tied five times throughout before Villanova netted the game-winner with 1:39 remaining to defeat the Blue Hens for the fifth consecutive meeting. The contest marked the second straight top-10 opponent on the Wildcats schedule, as the team previously lost a 20-14 decision to then-No. 5 Yale on February 19.
This week's polls feature four Villanova opponents in the top 20, including Penn (No. 10 IL/No. 10 USILA); Yale (13/11); Penn State (17/17); and Delaware (19/19). The Wildcats are the only BIG EAST team to appear in either poll.
Next up on the Villanova schedule is a Saturday afternoon road game at Hofstra.
