LOS ANGELES – After leading by as many as four goals, Villanova was able to lock up a winning weekend at the Convergence Tournament by holding off Fresno Pacific 13-10 on Saturday afternoon.
Villanova (8-7) moves above .500 with the win over Fresno Pacific (8-10), extending its winning streak to six in a row.
Emily McKenzie led the group with three goals.
Sarah Shaw picked up the win, making 10 saves on five goals allowed and adding a steal.
Fresno Pacific struck first on chance from Tatum Benson before Villanova took a 2-1 lead on a pair of goals from
Emily McKenzie. Benson struck back to level the game again, but
Amelia Baca gave the lead back to the Blue and White on a five-meter shot. Isabella Alcazar scored on a powerplay to get the Sunbirds back within one until
Emily Morrissey scored nearly 20 seconds later for a 4-3 lead.

Sara Withers closed out the period with a pair of net-movers, giving the 'Cats a 6-3 lead.
It took over four minutes into the second quarter for either side to make a break when
Emily Morrissey pushed the Villanova lead out to four at 7-3. An exclusion on
Sara Withers set Fresno Pacific up for a powerplay opportunity that Alexandria Jasso converted on. Alcazar added on another goal a minute late, sending the game into the half with Villanova up 7-5.
The 'Cats netted a pair to open the third thanks to McKenzie and
Allie Hansen. The Sunbirds fought back with two goals of their own, moving the Blue and White lead to 9-7. The sides exchanged goals through the backstretch of the frame with
Anna Painter getting the last of the sequence to give Villanova an 11-8 lead through the third.
It was an even scoring fourth with the sides going 2-2. Baca and Painter tickled the twine for the 'Cats but it was Jasso who secured her hat trick with the final goal of the contest.
Villanova is back in action on Tuesday as it heads to Cal State Northridge. That game is set for 6 p.m. EST.
