CAYCE, S.C.- The Wildcats, the voted ninth seed, took on #8 Marquette in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament early Thursday morning at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. The 'Cats fought but ultimately fell to the Golden Eagles 4-0.
Marquette claimed the first team point taking No. 1 and 2 doubles in close margins.
Valieriia Kornieva and
Amanda Rivera-González were the only doubles win on the day over Giulia Tuconi and Elizabeth Ferdman in a 6-4 result.
The Golden Eagles defeated No. 1, 3, and 6 singles and clinched the match in the sixth spot for the 4-0 victory.
This match ends the Wildcats postseason run and concludes the 2022-23 season. The 'Cats will return next fall 2023 for a new season of tennis.
