VILLANOVA, Pa.— Head coach
Joanie Milhous currently sits at 248 career wins at Villanova. She hopes to pick up 249 and 250 this weekend as her Wildcats travel to Quinnipiac and Fairfield.
Quinnipiac (3-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) has proven to be a tough test for Villanova in recent memory. Last season, the Wildcats snuck by the Bobcats 4-3 thanks to two goals from
Amanda Middleman. In 2021, the Bobcats triumphed in overtime, 5-4, on a game winner by Emeilia Massarelli. They currently hold wins over Dartmouth, Bryant and Providence with losses to New Hampshire and No. 18 Massachusetts in overtime. Game time is set for 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
Sunday's matchup with Fairfield (4-2) is a highly anticipated one as it marks game three of the Milhous rivalry between Joanie and her daughter Madison. The Stags won 2-0 in 2021, with the Wildcats responding last season winning 3-1. Madison, a junior back, has started all six games for the Stags this season. Her defense has given up just eight goals and held No. 1 Iowa to three goals, well below their goals per game average of 4.88. Joanie previously stated that coaching against her daughter "might be the hardest thing I have done in my career." Sunday's game is set for 1 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn.
Forwards
Meghan Mitchell and
Amanda Middleman have proven they can score on any defense in the nation, as the duo currently leads the BIG EAST with 13 goals this season. Middleman was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in the first week of the season while Mitchell has claimed three straight selections.
For Milhous to reach her biggest milestone this weekend, her Wildcats will have to win two consecutive road games for the first time since 2018. This Villanova group has experience and depth and looks to be up to the challenge.
