CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa—Villanova saw their five-game home winning streak come to an end at the hands of No.12 Rutgers by a score of 6-2.
The Wildcats stood tall and battled with their Big 10 foe all game long. After Rutgers took the lead early in the first quarter senior back
Sabine de Ruijter scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner to tie the score. Rutgers responded with two quick corner goals from Puck Winter to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
The Scarlet Knights would pull away in the second half thanks to goals from Winter, Marique Dieudonne, and Julianne Kopec.
Amanda Middleman scored her team leading fourth goal of the season for Villanova thanks to great plays from
Emma Schwarz and
Meghan Mitchell. Winter led the way for the Scarelet Knights scoring all three of her goals off penalty corners.
Wildcat goalkeeper
Emma Leppert was credited with four saves in the loss.
Villanova returns to action Sunday, September 10
th when they face Lasalle at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds. Game time is set for 12pm.
