STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Three event winners on the night and several additions to the list of all-time top performers in school history in the throwing events highlighted a strong night of competition at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday. There were more than 20 athletes in competition for the Wildcats in their annual home meet at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex. Fifth year hurdler Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.), fifth year sprinter Madison Martinez (Gahanna, Ohio) and junior distance runner Sadie Sigfstead (Edmonton, Alta.) all won their respective events.
 
A trio of throwers in graduate student Alex Payne (Silverdale, Wash.) plus fifth year athletes Adria Retter (Quakertown, Pa.) and Jordan Williams (Fresno, Calif.) each made their Villanova debuts and moved into the Wildcats lists of top-10 performers in the shot put and the weight throw. Payne, a transfer from Washington State, registered the fifth-longest weight throw in school history with a mark of 16.85 meters and is now second in school history in the event behind Sade Meeks who owns each of the four furthest throws in the Villanova record book.
 
Retter, a Division III national champion in the discus in her undergraduate career at Swarthmore, posted marks of 13.78 meters in the shot put and 15.09 meters in the weight throw on Saturday night. She now ranks seventh in school history in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw. Williams also competed in both the shot put (13.24m) and the weight throw (14.75m) on Saturday and moves onto the Wildcats performance lists in 10^th place in each event. Junior Faith Haught (Payson, Ariz.) is currently eighth in the weight throw and threw for a distance of 15.14 meters on Saturday night.
 
In the running events earlier in the night, Livingston and first year sprinter Ajanae Thompson (Rahway, N.J.) were the top two finishers in both the preliminary heats and the final of the 60 meter hurdles. Livingston tallied the fastest time of the night with a winning mark of 8.32 in the final, followed by Thompson in 8.43 in her collegiate debut. The time puts her into a tie for eighth place on the Wildcats all-time performance list in the hurdles.
 
Sigfstead and Carroll went 1-2 in the mile with times of 4:50.85 and 4:51.53, respectively. In the 500 meters, Martinez led four Villanova entries among the top five finishers with a winning time of 1:12.60. She was followed by freshman Olivia Allen (Kingwood, Texas), sophomore Micah Trusty (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Maya Dorer (New York, N.Y.) who finished consecutively in third through fifth places.
 
Villanova will next be in action when it competes in the Penn State National Open this coming Friday and Saturday (January 26-27) in University Park, Pa.
