Villanova University true freshman running back David Avit (Potomac, Md.) has been named both the CAA Rookie of the Week and the Stats Perform National Rookie of the Week, while grad student linebacker Brendan Bell (Basking Ridge, N.J.) earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
This is the second straight week that Avit has garnered CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
Avit rushed 13 times for 183 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcats 42-24 win over Stony Brook on Saturday. The 183 yards on the ground sets a new school record for rushing yards by a freshman. Two of the four rushing scores were from 72 and 59 yards. In his last two games, Avit has registered 37 carries for 343 yards and five touchdowns.
Bell led three Wildcat linebackers in double figure tackles with a career-high 15, including seven solo stops. He also added 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. The 15 tackles are the most by a CAA player this season.
Villanova has a bye this week and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, with a game at Maine.
