De Ruijter Named Philly-SIDA Co-Performer of the Year; Borkowski Earns Academic All-Area Honors

De Ruijter will share the award with Arcadia forward Morganne Dee

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – A long list of career accolades for Sabine de Ruijter continues to grow as the Villanova forward was named Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) Co-Performer of the Year, the association announced Monday (Dec. 9). Forward Ava Borkowski was also named to the Academic All-Area team.

De Ruijter tacks on another award to a stellar 2024 season. She earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors and was named first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region by the NFHCA after ranking in the top 10 nationally in both goals (15) and points (33). She became the first Wildcat since 2007 to score a goal in five straight games (Sept. 9-Sept. 22) and excelled in a four-goal performance at Penn (Oct. 6). The fifth-year senior also converted three game-winning goals, including a double-overtime winner over William & Mary (Sept. 22) and a tiebreaking goal in the third period against Providence (Nov. 1) to complete a second-half comeback.

De Ruijter's outstanding year has etched her name near the top of the Villanova record books. She rose to fourth in career goals (47), tied for fifth in points (110) and game-winning goals (11), and sixth in shots. De Ruijter is working towards a Master of Science in Finance.

Borkowski made an immediate impact in her first season on the Main Line, scoring 10 goals behind three multi-goal games. The Conshohocken, Pa., native became the first Villanova player to record two hat tricks in a single season since Lydia Sydnor in 2019. She joined two other Wildcats (Meghan Mitchell, Gemma Lysaght) on the All-BIG EAST second team.

Villanova now has 10 players in program history that have been named Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area. De Ruijter joins Mitchell as the only two Wildcats to ever earn Performer of the Year after Mitchell earned the award in 2023.
