VIllanova Falls In Series Finale

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Villanova finishes their three-game series against Incarnate Word with a 9-6 loss.

For the third straight game of the series, Villanova started off the game with strong at bats.  A two-run home run and two more runs, the score was 4-0 going into the bottom of the first inning.  Just like the games before the Cardinals responded with four runs of their own in the first.  A single to right field would be enough for two runners to score for Incarnate Word to take their first lead of the day 6-4 in the third. Going into the eighth inning with the score 7-5, the Cardinals would put it out of reach. A two-run home run would bring the lead to 9-5 and would be too much for the Wildcats to overcome.

Nova Notes
  • After leading the team in home runs a year ago, Jack O'Reilly notched his first of the season with a two-run blast in the first inning. He finished the game with two RBIs.
  • Stephen Turzai pitched 2.0 innings in relief recording two strikeouts and no hits allowed.

How It Happened
  • Jack O'Reilly hit a two-run shot in the first to give Villanova a 2-0 lead.
  • Cam Hassert and Dylan Dennis scored two more runs to extend the first inning lead to 4-0.
  • The Cardinals answered in the bottom of the first tacking on four including a two-run home run from Dalton Beck, tying the game at 4-4.
  • Tony DeJesus singled to right allowing Dalton Beck and Rey Mendoza to score, giving the Cardinals a 6-4 lead in the third inning.
  • In the bottom of the fifth Luca Boscarino doubled to right center scoring Dalton Beck and giving the Cardinals a 7-4 lead.
  • Jack O'Reilly scored on a passed ball in the seventh, 7-5.
  • The lead would grow to 9-5 for the Cardinals after Sterling Sutcliffe hit a two-run home run to center in the eighth.
  • The Wildcats added one run in the ninth after AJ Hansen scores on a ground out by Scott Shaw.
