NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Villanova women's lacrosse earned some hardware on Monday after their first win of 2024, picking up a trio of BIG EAST weekly awards.
Sydney Pappas picked up the second league Attacker of the Week honor of her career, first-year draw specialist
Emma Verhoest earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and goalkeeper
Cate Gallagher appeared on the conference's weekly honor roll.
Pappas earned the BIG EAST's top attacker honors after leading the Wildcats with a quartet of goals in Saturday afternoon's victory over Bucknell, converting four of her five shots on goal. The junior attacker almost single-handedly pulled the 'Cats back into control of the ballgame as three of her tallies came in the fourth quarter, two of them being unassisted and another a free position.
Verhoest got her first career accolade after dominating on draws in Saturday's matchup, winning 14 of the bout's draws to herself. The first year draw specialist recorded the second most draws won in a single game in Villanova history, trailing only
Caroline Curnal's 16 in 2023.
Gallagher picked up the first honor roll selection of her career after a strong all-around defensive performance for Villanova, stuffing 12 shots in the contest for a .500 save percentage. The junior netminder added a pair of ground balls and caused turnovers in the game, earning her first win of the year.
The Wildcats will be back in action twice this week, taking a visit to La Salle for a Wednesday afternoon bout before an excursion south for a matchup with No. 17 Navy on Saturday.
