VILLANOVA, Pa.—Villanova (1-2) is looking to build momentum from their win over Colgate as they face another Patriot League side Lehigh this Saturday.
The Wildcats dominated Colgate from start to finish and did an excellent job forcing turnovers and capitalizing on their chances. Defenders
Stephen Zupicich and
Jack Shoemaker led the way combining for seven caused turnovers and
Matt Licata impressed with seven points in the win. Zupicich is now sixth in the nation with 2.67 caused turnovers per game.
The Mountain Hawks come in at 2-2 after an impressive 11-6 victory over Dartmouth. Their two losses came to No. 5 Cornell and No. 14 Rutgers, which they scored a combined 25 goals in those contests. Scott Cole will be a name to watch for Lehigh as he currently sits ninth in the country with 3.75 goals per game and is the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. Nothing jumps off the page stat wise other than consistency, the Mountain Hawks average 11 goals per game and have passed that number against quality competition.
Lehigh was picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League preseason poll after a third place finish last season. This will be the first meeting between the sides since 2021 where Villanova came out on top 16-8. The sides met 11 straight seasons from 2004-15 and Villanova leads the all-time series 17-11.
Opening faceoff is set for 11 a.m. from Frank Banko Field in Bethlehem, Pa.
