LEXINGTON, Va.—Villanova capped off another undefeated weekend on Sunday with two victories over Toronto and McKendree.
The early slate saw the Wildcats take down Toronto 13-7 behind four goals from
Ella Mattocks. The first half was back and forth with the 'Cats taking a two-goal advantage into the halftime break before pulling away in the fourth quarter.
Stella Byles was impressive recording two goals and tied a career-high with four assists.
Coco Jones anchored the defense picking up three steals and
Abigail Shelby recorded seven saves in goal.
Against McKendree, Byles dazzled yet again with four goals and two assists. Freshman
Lauren Short also scored four goals proving that the Wildcats have elite depth in their rotation.
Amelia Baca recorded a hat trick with three goals and fellow freshman
Tiffany Maguire racked up four assists in the win.
"These games this weekend have been great experiences for our team putting together everything we've been working on so far and see it come together with four more wins," said assistant coach Kaysie Stuba. "It was awesome to see us come together as a team even more from last week, and I'm excited for the rest of the season where we will have tougher games leading into conference play."
The 8-0 start to the season is historic, but the Wildcats are not satisfied with the results yet. They will keep pushing for more wins as MAAC play approaches. Villanova returns to action Thursday, February 8
th with a lone non-conference game at Princeton before participating in the Bucknell Bison Invitational next weekend.
