Wildcats Drop Shootout 12-11 Against ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, TN– Wildcats drop game one in Tennessee to ETSU in a contest that saw 23 total runs.

A game that saw both teams reach double digits did not start out as fast as you would think.  The first two innings were scoreless for both teams, but things would change in the third.  A double and home run got the scoring started for Villanova, giving themselves a three-run lead.  East Tennessee responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs to take the lead.  The lead would continue to go back and forth as a two-run home run in the fifth gave the Wildcats a 5-4 lead. A sacrifice fly by the Bucs in the bottom of the inning would tie the game back up at five. Villanova would score the next six runs of the game taking an 11-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh. East Tennessee would match those six runs by Villanova with six of their own as a home run in the bottom of the eighth would be the game tying shot, 11-11. In the bottom of the ninth a single through the right side would be a walk off for East Tennessee, 12-11.
