WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Junior distance runner Sadie Sigfstead (Edmonton, Alta.) recorded the fastest outdoor time of her career in the 5000 meters with a strong race at the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday night. Sigfstead crossed the finish line in 15:59.02 to register the second-fastest time of her career and move into seventh place on Villanova's all-time outdoor performance list.
 
Big races at this point in the season have postseason implications and Sigfstead put herself into the middle of the East Region descending order list – officially 27^th as of the end of the race – with her time at Kentner Stadium on Friday night. It is the third time in her career that she has broken 16 minutes in the 5K, with each of the three races coming since February of this year. Sigfstead already ranks third overall in school history in the 5000 meters and is now seventh on the program's outdoor list in the event.
 
The invite section of the 5K was split into three heats at Kentner Stadium and Sigfstead ran in the fastest of the three against several of the nation's top distance runners. She ran the first 3000 meters at a PR pace with a split of 9:17.14 to that point in the race. Sigfstead ran two more fast laps which moved her into fifth place in the field of 23 runners as she challenged for the lead
