PHILADELPHIA – The Villanova Men's Tennis team opened the season with a loss to Drexel, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25).
In doubles action,
Cooper Gordon and
Kush Anand forced a tiebreak but fell to Alex De Sousa and Roman Lafond, 7-6 (7-2).
Trey Fourticq and
Thomas Wakefield dropped their set to Will Burridge and Hussein El Tawil, 6-3, and
Will Monahan and
Quincy Jones fell to Josue Guzman and Tiago Lima, 6-2, surrendering the doubles point to the Dragons.
At the top of the singles card, Gordon narrowly fell to De Sousa, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5. Monahan dropped a pair of close sets to El Tawil, 6-4, 7-5, while Wakefield fell to Burridge, 6-1, 6-3. Fourticq dropped the first set to Antonio Franquis, 6-1, but bounced back to claim the second set, 6-3, before falling in a tiebreaker, 10-7. Freshman

Kush Anand dropped both sets to Roman Lafond, 6-2, 6-3, to round out the singles draw.
Up next, the Wildcats will head to Elton, Md., to face Delaware on Sunday (Jan. 26). The match will start at 5 p.m. ET at Elkton Indoor Tennis.
