EDISON, N.J. – Two Wildcats won MAAC weekly awards for the first time in their careers for their performances this past week:
Gracin Kerry, the Defensive Player of the Week, and
Riley Hull, Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. This was the second year in a row that the Wildcats received multiple weekly awards from the conference after hosting their opening weekend tournament.
Villanova went 4-0 during the Wildcat Invite, including defeating two MAAC opponents in Iona and Mount St. Mary's.
Kerry won the Defensive Player of the Week award after a stellar showing in the first tournament of the season. She allowed only 21 goals in 112 minutes in the net across all four games to total a 6.00 goals against average. The junior saved 44 shots throughout her 14 quarters played during the weekend, including 15 and 14 against Gannon and Iona, respectively. Kerry also tallied three assists, two of those being long outlet passes that resulted in goals for her fellow MAAC weekly award winner in Hull. She recorded her 15
th career win against Mercyhurst in the Wildcats' finale, moving her into sole possession of fifth place for career goalie wins in program history.
Hull took home Co-Rookie of the Week honors, which she shares with Vanessa McNabb of Iona. She was a standout on offense in her first collegiate tournament, leading the team in goals with 14 across the weekend while also dishing out five assists. During Sunday's games against Mount St. Mary's and Iona, Hull combined for nine goals across the day.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will be travelling up to Providence, R.I., to play in the Bruno Invitational hosted by Brown University. On February 1, they will face off against the University of the Pacific at 11:20 A.M. and Marist College at 3:20 P.M.
