Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Villanova field hockey team had a convincing 5-0 victory in Washington, D.C. against BIG EAST opponent Georgetown.
The opening period was tight defensive battle with both teams just combining for three shots on goal. After the opening 15, Villanova had two shots on goal compared to Georgetown's one.
The second period was where VU broke the game wide open. In the second frame the 'Cats put up three goals on six shots. Junior
Addie Froehlich opened the scoring for Villanova in the early minutes from a beautiful feed from
Gemma Lysaght. Graduate student
Ava Borkowski added another goal to the scoreboard and her season goal total. This was her fifth goal of the campaign and doubled the 'Cats lead. Lysaght finished the scoring with a nice goal with under seven minutes left.
Molly Zimmerman helped orchestrate the goal with nice passes.
Villanova carried its momentum into the second half, adding two more goals to record its highest scoring game of the season. In the third period, junior
Colleen Finnan set up junior
Eileen Mazzaro for her first goal of the day. The Wildcats capped things off in the fourth when
Carey Werley set up Borkowski's second goal of the day and her sixth on the season!
In goal, freshman
Sophie Volkel picked up another win and another shutout. Volkel now has three shutouts in her young career and four wins. Junior
Maddi Sears saw some actions and played well to hold the shutout victory for Villanova.
Following the dominant win, head coach Milhous was pleased with her team's third straight win:
"Really happy! Total team effort, Georgetown came out strong and pressed us hard. Very happy with how the team stuck with the game plan. We played really well and were disciplined and composed. Happy with four different scorers."
