CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova field hockey team will return home this weekend for two games. First the 'Cats will face Old Dominion on Friday, October 10, and then Penn on Sunday, October 12.
Villanova is coming off a weekend where they went 1-1. Their first game was a dominant win over BIG EAST for Georgetown on the road. The 'Cats got off to a fast start, striking for three goals in the second frame in route to a comfortable 5-0 win. Graduate student
Ava Borkowski scored two goals in the back of the cage in the outing. This was Borkowski's second game this season with multiple goals, and she now leads the team in goals and points with six goals and 12 points. Freshman
Sophie Volkel tallied another win and another shutout in her young career. On Sunday, Villanova fell to American 3-0 on the road. American scored two goals in the first half that was enough to push them to victory.
Old Dominion is 4-7 on the season and currently on a three-game losing streak. The Monarchs began the season with a narrow 3-2 defeat in overtime against VCU. ODU four wins on the year have come against William & Mary, Wagner, Providence, and Quinnipiac. Their last game out was a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the #3 North Carolina Tarheels. ODU has a 2-1 record in the BIG EAST this season. Villanova lost a close contest the last time the two faced off last season.
Penn has gotten off to an even 4-4 record through the first nine games of the 2025 campaign. All four Quakers losses have come against nationally ranked teams. They have fallen to at the time #2 North Carolina, #10 Maryland, and #9 Princeton. Most recently they dropped their last match to #4 Harvard by a score of 6-1. A couple notable wins they have on their resume have come over Old Dominion and American, both teams that Villanova have faced or will face. A season ago the 'Cats cruised to an easy 5-1 victory over Penn.
