Water Polo Ranked for the First Time in Program History

Wildcats placed #23 in the ACWPC Poll and #25 in the CWPA Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Villanova Women's Water Polo was ranked #23 and #25 in across the two national water polo polls, the ACWPC and the CWPA announced Wednesday.

"[It] feels great to be ranked, earned, and deserved the way we have played to start this season," Head Coach Michael Gordon said. "Still [have] lots of work to do to continue to improve; let's see how high we can climb!"

This is the first ranking for the team in the program's 28-year history, and the five votes they received to rank 25th in the CWPA poll are their most since receiving four during the week of April 21, 2021, the same week as their last ranked win vs. Iona.

The ranking comes off the heels of playing three incredibly close games during the Bruno Classic, in which the Wildcats competed until the end against #24 University of the Pacific, RV Marist University, and #23 Brown University. The 'Cats kept the momentum going in Harvard's Crimson Classic by staying close against #13 UC San Diego and ultimately defeating #21 Brown by a score of 11-8 in a rematch of the prior Sunday's contest.
