VILLANOVA, Pa. – After a thrilling victory over No. 9 Yale on Saturday, this week the Wildcats find themselves ranked in both the Inside Lacrosse and USILA Coaches poll at No. 19/20, respectively, the media outlets announced Monday.
This is their first time in the polls since they appeared in the Inside Lacrosse final rankings in 2023, when they ranked No. 17. The Wildcats have received votes in 14 of the last 15 polls.
The 'Cats upcoming opponent on Saturday, the Colgate Raiders (1-2), are receiving votes this week in the Inside Lacrosse poll as they come off a 19-14 win over the University at Albany.
In this iteration of the national media polls, three future Wildcat opponents were ranked by both outlets. No. 11 IL/11 USILA Georgetown (April 25), No. 14/13 Denver (March 29), and No. 17/15 Penn (March 8).
Villanova ranks fourth in the country in caused turnovers per game with 12.00.
Jake Melchionni and
Jack Shoemaker both have forced three, while six other Wildcats have multiple caused turnovers in the young season. Last season, VU ranked third in the nation in this statistic, and the strong defense looks to continue this trend to create offensive opportunities.
