BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Villanova University men's tennis team split a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to Bucknell, 6-1, on Saturday (Feb. 22) before sweeping Wagner, 7-0, on Sunday (Feb. 23) at the Bryn Mawr Racquet Club.
SATURDAY VS. BUCKNELL
In doubles,
Will Monahan and
Justin Frattarelli fell to Brendan McDonald and Amar Tahirovic, 6-3. Then, Nelson Alapi and Liam Kilmer defeated
Thomas Wakefield and
Kush Anand, 6-1, securing the doubles point for Bucknell.
At the top of the singles card, Adam Stavrakas took down
Cooper Gordon, 6-0, 6-1. Tahirovic defeated Monahan, 6-4, 6-1. The Wildcats' third and fourth flights each took the first set, but eventually fell in third-set tiebreakers as
Trey Fourticq fell to Kilmer, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6, and Wakefield was defeated by Oscar Bain, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. Brendan McDonald defeated
Kush Anand in the fifth slot, 6-4, 6-4. In the final singles flight,
Justin Frattarelli defeated Nelson Alapi, 8-6, to earn a point for Villanova. Ultimately, Bucknell prevailed, 6-1.

Monahan and Frattarelli took down Wagner's top doubles team (Carlos Rodriguez and Gabriele Zugarelli), 6-4. Gordon and Fourticq blanked Damian Janiszewski and Joshua Zhao, 6-0. Then, Wakefield and Anand defeated Pablo Rodriguez and Jordan Hunte, 6-4, securing the doubles point for the Wildcats.
In singles, Gordon defeated Carlos Rodriguez, 6-4, 6-4. Fourticq prevailed over Pablo Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-3. Monahan and Wakefield both defeated Janiszewski and Hunte, respectively, in straight sets. Anand took down Vibhu Challagundla, 6-4, 6-4.
Cameron Kruep defeated Zhao by the same score, securing the 7-0 sweep for Villanova.
